Abstract

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of university students’ self-monitoring of educational outcomes in foreign experience. It is established that students’ ability to self-monitor educational outcomes is one of the determinants of their readiness for independent educational and metacognitive activity and is one of the most important conditions for their successful mastery in professional competencies. The structure of self-monitoring of learning outcomes is presented. It is considered that the main criterion of self-monitoring is the student’s internal self-motivation, which refers to setting and achieving goals, feeling the success of activities, forming attributive judgments, and understanding learning values. Foreign scientists’ common approaches to the students’ support and maximum assistance in sequence of actions during self-monitoring of academic and extracurricular activities are highlighted. It is determined that self-monitoring is an effective strategy for improving students’ academic achievements, especially with the active use of information resources and tools. Specific foreign practice of the development of students’ competence in self-monitoring of educational outcomes is considered. The steps for developing self-monitoring skills are described. Three stages of self-monitoring are distinguished: productivity, analysis and planning. It is established that the following innovative methods and techniques are used in foreign educational practice for improving students’ self-monitoring skills: scientific reflection with feedback, expertise, essays, reflexive and video portfolio, check-lists, dairy observations, self-report etc. It is concluded that the use of foreign innovative ideas in the development of techniques and methods of self-monitoring educational outcomes would contribute to the improvement of pre-service specialists’ professional training in Ukrainian higher education institutions.
