FEATURES OF FUTURE LAWYERS’ SOCIO-LEGAL TRAINING: AMERICAN AND BRITISH MODELS

The article describes the influence of international cooperation on the implementation of educational programs for training future lawyers in the American and British experience. The features of socio-legal training of future lawyers are highlighted. Socio-legal training of future lawyers involves the formation of a system of social and professional knowledge and skills, such as empathy, emotional intelligence, interactive interaction, auditory skills, self-motivation for professional development, creative thinking, skills of working in an interdisciplinary team, intercultural communication skills, ability to work under pressure, reliability and self-awareness, leadership and initiative, commercial awareness, managerial qualities, and attention to detail. Similar and different approaches to socio-legal training of future lawyers in the British and American educational system are analyzed. The terms and duration of training; conditions for admission to educational programs; profiling and specialization of educational programs; requirements for licensing and accreditation of educational programs; certification of graduates; financial support and crediting of students' studies are singled out. The attention is paid to the practical training of future lawyers. The practical orientation of legal education is provided by the following educational activities: workshops, trainings, webinars, practical seminars, discussions in small groups, case studies, online research conducted by well-known practicing lawyers. The importance and role of legal clinics and apprenticeship programs is emphasized. It is concluded that these countries strive for educational and professional standards’ unification for the training of future lawyers based on the development of common criteria within the framework of international cooperation.
